Buffalo State College participates in the Empire Shared Collection (ESC). Empire Shared is a collection of around 30,000 seldom-used, serial-type materials contributed by member institutions and housed at the University at Buffalo's Annex. Articles from that collection are provided to our patrons via interlibrary loan requests. We needed a way to make sure that requests which could be fulfilled from ESC, were fulfilled from ESC and not farmed out to the larger resource sharing community. We also wanted to ensure swift turnaround times to make the shift from a local collection to a shared, off-site collection less problematic for our users. IDS Logic made both these objectives possible. This presentation will review Buffalo State's collaboration with IDS and ESC to make this off-site collection available, and to process requests against it easily and rapidly. I will focus on our initial efforts to make the collection available, our various attempts to improve discoverability, and our current fulfillment process using IDS Logic.
